UPDATE: the job that keeps expecting me to stay late has now announced punishment if anyone attempts to leave on time
  • 03
so i posted a little while ago that my job has me work 10-6 except they tell me to stay late everytime with no compensation. i
  • 04
receive salary so i expect to not receive compensation but it hurts my bank as i have to then take ubers to go home since i refuse to take the train once its getting dark
  • 05
for safety. well now they've announced that they will "punish" anyone who attempts to leave "early." i have attempted. to make my situation clear as to why i need to leave at 6 and they've told me to "figure it out."
  • 06
on a separate but similar note, they have announced punishment if we attempt to not show up for hurricane milton (i am in the southside of florida and while we won't be getting hit directly, i
  • 07
have no chance of making it to work if it begins to flood my area). i am genuinely considering just dropping this job all together. any thoughts?

Jakob... 2h ago What exactly are your job duties? I have a sneaking suspicion that you're misclassified and shouldn't be overtime-exempt

minima... • 2h ago. Working off the clock is theft

Hurricane? Sorry, road's flooded, can't come in. Don't feel safe taking the train after dark? It doesn't matter if they agree with your reasons.
  • 12
When they tell you to figure it out, remember that figuring it out could also mean you quitting and/or finding a job that will accommodate your hours.

    • Fight_t... 2h ago. I just reported my former employer to DOL and EEOC. Know that they take wage theft seriously but 1.) document everything, and 2.).
  • 14
It takes a lot of time. Also if you're planning on going the legal route you can't have a DOL complaint and a lawyer working on it at the same time.

. Lily_06... 2h ago • Just as an FYI you need to pull your offer letter and find out if your position is exempt or non exempt. Being salaried is how you're paid, it has
  • 16
nothing to do with whether you're eligible for OT. This isn't negotiable and companies do not get to decide who is exempt or non exempt. A call center job does not sound like an exempt position.

    hcth63... • 2h ago. I think you've figured it out. Leave at 6.
